Bhanragh: India's Most Haunted Place, Not Haunted At All

Bhangarh is a located near Jaipur, and not very far from Sariska Tiger Resort. Bhangarh is famous for its ruins, and being India’s most haunted place. The question is why a beautiful place like Bhangarh is haunted? The most famous myth that goes around Bhangarh is that it was cursed by Guru Balu Nath, causing mass evacuation of the town. After that curse, Bhangarh has never been able to become a township again, and whenever attempted, people were never able to settle down, and ran away due to some scare. Bhangarh has now been declared a government heritage site.

Is Bhangarh really Haunted?

Bhangarh is actually a very beautiful place and an amazing picnic spot. Surrounded by Hills, jungles, & lots of greenery, with old & ruined forts, where tourists along with various animals like monkeys, cows, langours etc. enjoy a natural & scenic setting.

Getting back to the main question, have we even seen a place which is thronged by visitors during the day, and then suddenly at sunset gets influenced by so called Ghosts? If Bhangarh was haunted, then you would not even see a single animal there, a human being is out of question. However, if you are adamant, adventurous and interested in experiencing some fright, you can hide & stay back after the sunset, or manage to sneak past the guards after the approved timings, or use the jungle / hills which surrounds Bhangarh, to get in. Believe me; this will scare the hell out of you, not because of the ghosts, but because of sheer darkness, and so many animals surrounding you, creating sounds, in the midst of a forest. Please Note: I do not recommend visiting Bhangarh post sun set, as it may be dangerous to your life.

Why is Entry not allowed Before Sunrise and After Sunset?

The reason Bhangarh is closed after sunset and before sunrise, is due to scare of wild animals. Animals tend to come down in the evening, late night, in search of water (which is available down hill, and connects to a small man made pond / pool, where the rulers used to bath). The other reason is sheer darkness, and who anyway would want to go a place where there is no sign of light, especially near a jungle?

What do local people say about Bhangarh?

I enquired with the security guard and local people living around about the haunted story, and most of people laughed and told me that someone is making a fool of me, as it’s a government heritage site. They also told me that some people (moving all alone) reported hearing some untoward sounds and lighting, but this has never been experienced by a group. Even the guards stay inside the gate, and they said they never experience anything like that.

Final Conclusion: Bhangarh is quite a beautiful place to visit; however you would be very disappointed to know that there are no ghosts, no spirits, no nothing whatsoever; just animals & sometimes local people making these strange sounds. Obviously during that day you won’t get scared, however as the sun sets, and light start to fade, any noise or movement even by a bird, is bound to scare hell out of you.
